The Position - Accounting Manager
The Accounting Manager will be given ownership of a wide range of responsibilities and immediate business challenges. Reporting to the Director of Finance, he or she will be responsible for ensuring that the daily accounting operations run smoothly and effectively. This will be accomplished by providing accurate and timely finance information that the senior management team can utilize effectively. The organization is constantly looking for ways to improve its operating efficiencies and internal controls.
The Accounting Manager will be expected to utilize his or her strong analytical ability and personal initiative by continually striving to make improvements to the company's accounting and business processes.
Unlike many accounting positions that are viewed as nothing more than score keeping, the Accounting Manager will be deeply involved in the front line business operations, consistently delivering superior performance.

Candidate Criteria
The following are critical to successful performance in the position:
- Must demonstrate exceptional analytical ability.
- Demonstrate ability to proactively communicate with senior executives, IT, Operations and Customer Service to improve processes and addresses related business issues in a timely manner.
- Effectively organize and process high volume of data from multiple data sources
- 5+ Years of accounting experience (retail accounting experience is a plus).
- Retail Inventory Control experience is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills required; Peachtree experience helpful.
- Bachelors Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Primary Responsibilities
- Hands on responsibility for all aspects of the general ledger:
- Month end close (5 day close currently).
- Demonstrate accuracy and timeliness when preparing and/or reviewing ledger entries.
- Manage bank and general ledger reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy
- Maintain chart of accounts.
- Track fixed assets and prepare depreciation schedules.
- Ability to assess and take ownership of critical issues that arise.
- Prepare complete, accurate and timely financial statements.
- Establish, document, and maintain effective key accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Ensure that all compiled data from varying systems is accurate and complete.
- Assess current accounting operations for process improvement as well as implementing new processes that will enhance the reporting function across the entire organization. Analyzing process flows in order to bring automation to manual processes will be one of many key initiatives.
- Supervise and develop inventory control, AP, Payroll and General Accounting staff.
- Serve as liaison to external auditors.
- Take a proactive role in resolving both internal and external reporting issues and in educating appropriate staff in other internal departments in regards to accounting policies and procedures as it relates to those departments' functions.
Reporting
This position reports to the Finance Director. There will be supervisory responsibility for 2-4 direct reports depending on temporary staffing arrangements.
NOTE: This is a hands-on position that requires direct involvement with all aspects of the general accounting function. Managers that cannot demonstrate this in their current role will not be considered.
