OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION

Corporate Controller

Location: Torrance, CA
Our client is a small privately held company that has set the standard for quality, service and delivery in its industry for over 40 years . The company has been involved in virtually every major aerospace, commercial, military and space program since its inception. The company has experienced 20% year over year growth for the last the last several years due in part to a dedicated workforce, strong new management team and experienced board of directors. In order to meet their objectives, the organization continues to invest in human capital and capital equipment to meet the demand for its proprietary services. In addition, our client is focused on expanding and improving its existing manufacturing processes which will ultimately improve overall efficiencies, create higher margins for specific service segments and solidify long-term relationships with its customers. Although much of the heavy lifting has been done, there are many strategic challenges and opportunities as the organization grows, for a hands-on, operationally oriented corporate controller to make significant contributions. The CEO has retained GMR Executive Search to recruit an experienced, operationally savvy finance and accounting professional with whom he can creatively partner to drive strategic initiatives and key issues, improve financial reporting, overhaul FP&A and other deliverables as determined by the CEO and Board of Directors.

The Position – Corporate Controller

You will provide leadership and coordination of our client’s financial planning, debt financing and budget management functions. You will ensure that the organization’s accounting procedures conform to GAAP.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the financial statement close process
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain general ledger and supporting records
  • Reconcile all accounts and subsidiary ledgers
  • Ensure all transactions are executed in accordance with GAAP
  • Create monthly financial reporting package for investors and bank which will include financial statements, Revolver Borrowing Base Certificate and Financial Covenants Certification.
  • Improve forecasting and reporting by establishing best practices for both disciplines that will enhance strategic planning and operational decision making by refining the understanding of the unknown variables in competitive and financial markets.
  • Assist CFO with preparation of budgets, forecasts and transactional analysis
  • Tax planning and compliance for all local, state and federal entities
  • Ensure protection of the Company's assets by designing and maintaining sound internal controls.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Well-rounded finance and accounting background, including general accounting, financial planning & analysis, reporting, budgeting and internal controls.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment that required strong working knowledge of the job costing process.
  • Previous experience in public accounting and/or CPA designation is preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to build trust among executives and investors by demonstrating a sound grasp of the art and science of finance and delivering a solid track record of accurate numbers.
  • Relationship building skills to include an approachable personal style and the ability to bond with peers, customers, vendors and suppliers.
  • The ability to make the tough decisions, which need to be made for the wellness and growth of the company, professional and management staff, vendors and customers.
  • Evidence of creativity, high integrity, reasoned and thoughtful judgment, a sense of urgency, a balance between analytical and intuitive skills and a willingness to "roll-up sleeves" and apply these attributes in a rapidly expanding business environment.
  • An excellent team builder:  Able to articulate clear, meaningful goals for his/her department and focus people's efforts to get results.  Ability to delegate responsibility to team members, provide guidance and counsel yet allows them room to identify ways and means to accomplish specific goals and objectives.
  • Strong work ethic and outstanding human character.

Reporting
Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer/Interim CFO of the company.
